President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday praised United States President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his reelection bid in the upcoming US presidential election.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the President commended Biden’s decision to withdraw and his subsequent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential frontrunner.

“President Biden’s decision to withdraw from his candidacy is a demonstration of genuine statesmanship,” Mr. Marcos said on Monday.

“We thank him for his constant and unwavering support for the Philippines in a delicate and difficult time. We wish him well for the rest of his presidency and for all his future endeavors,” he added.

Biden’s decision has surprised many in the international community, as he has been a key figure in US politics for decades.

His presidency has seen significant cooperation between the US and the Philippines, particularly in defense, economic partnership, and regional stability.
