Metro Manila police director Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) for its swift response resulting in the arrest of persons responsible for the recent holdup and stabbing incident inside the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman.

Nartatez claimed that the case was an isolated incident and assured the public that police visibility would be increased to prevent similar incidents.

“The National Capital Region Police Office is committed to maintaining peace and order and ensuring the safety of the students and residents. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities,” the NCRPO chief said.

Operatives from QCPD Anonas Police Station arrested two suspects, both of them minors, involved in the incident that occurred along Valenzuela Street, in front of the College of Electrical Engineering inside the UP Campus.

Investigation showed that around 8:17 p.m. on July 8, an 18-year-old female college student was walking inside the campus when three persons appeared, forcibly took her belongings, and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing on foot.

The victim, who is currently receiving medical treatment at Diliman Doctors Hospital, recounted the ordeal to her mother, who promptly provided the details to the police.

The QCPD immediately verified the report and coordinated with the UP Diliman Police.

The authorities secured CCTV footage and established that the three persons involved in the incidents were minors who they described as “Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).”

A manhunt operation was launched on July 9 resulting in the arrest of two minor suspects. The victim’s wallet, containing IDs, an ATM card, and a cellphone, was recovered from their possession.

During a police lineup, the victim positively identified the two arrested suspects. The remaining suspect, who is still at large, was identified as the one who stabbed the victim.

The arrested suspects and recovered evidence were brought to the Anonas Police Station for proper disposition and documentation.
