Suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo and seven others on Wednesday were cited in contempt by the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality for skipping hearings on Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs).
Committee chairperson Sen. Risa Hontiveros said after the Wednesday hearing, she will seek the issuance of an arrest order against the eight.
Senate President Francis Escudero earlier mentioned he would immediately sign the arrest order once requested by Hontiveros.
The move to file contempt charges and issue an arrest order against Guo and the seven others was sought by Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian and Senate President Jinggoy Estrada.
While Guo sent a letter to Hontiveros on Tuesday night, citing mental health as the reason for her failure to attend today’s hearing and last July 26 hearing, this was rejected by the committee chair.
Others cited in contempt who will also be issued an arrest order are Guo’s biological mother Wenyi Lin and father Jian Zhong Guo, brothers Seimen Guo and Wesley Guo, sister Shiela Guo, Nancy Gamo, and Dennis Cunanan.
The committee will also issue subpoenas to 15 other people.
