The Gabriela Women’s Party has joined the popular ride-hailing app Angkas and LGBTQ+ organization BAHAGHARI in celebrating Pride Month through the “ANGKASama sa Kulayaan” event on June 19.
“The LGBTQ+ community exists within other marginalized sectors such as workers, farmers, and the urban poor,” said Rep. Arlene Brosas, the group’s nominee in Congress said.
Over 100 LGBTQ+ riders from Angkas participated in the One Billion Rising dance along with women and LGBTQ+ advocates. Brosas in her keynote speech emphasized the importance of solidarity across all gender equality and anti-discrimination movements.
The event held at Angkas Tagumpay Center in Pasig City also served as a platform to push for the passage of the SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics) Equality Bill, which aims to provide equal rights and protections for all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. This includes advocating for equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and other essential services.
