President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. officially signed a law dividing Bagong Silang in Caloocan into six distinct and autonomous barangays.

Republic Act No. 11993 turns Bagong Silang into Barangay 176-A, Barangay 176-B, Barangay 176-C, Barangay 176-D, Barangay 176-E, and Barangay 176-F—each delineated with immediate effect within the existing “puroks” or phases.

The law was signed on Wednesday, April 3.

Following the enactment of the law, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is tasked with overseeing a plebiscite within 90 days in Barangay 176 of Caloocan City to validate the division.

Additionally, the new law stipulates the appointment of interim barangay officials, including a Punong Barangay, seven Sangguniang Barangay members, a Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and seven Sangguniang Kabataan members, in each newly created barangay, designated by the mayor.

These interim officials will serve until elected successors assume office, while incumbent officials remain until new appointments. Existing infrastructure transfers to new barangays, with no cost, under their administration.
