Speaker vows aid, justice for victims

Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Thursday expressed deep sorrow and concern following reports of the tragic deaths of Filipino seafarers in a Huthi ballistic missile attack on the ship M/V True Confidence in the Gulf of Aden.

The attack, marking the first fatal assault by the Iran-backed militant group in the Red Sea, resulted in the loss of at least three crew members, including the Filipinos, and severe injuries to two other Filipino crewmen.

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the Filipino seafarers who lost their lives in this senseless and tragic attack.

Their dedication and sacrifices while serving aboard the M/V True Confidence will always be remembered and honored,” Romualdez remarked.

The leader of the 310-strong House of Representatives assured that President Marcos will swiftly provide the needed assistance and support to the families of the casualties and the injured crewmen.

“We stand in solidarity with President Marcos, the Department of Migrant Workers, and the Filipino seafarers affected by this heartbreaking incident. It is imperative that we extend all possible assistance to the families of the victims and ensure that the injured receive the necessary medical care and support,” the Speaker said.

The House chief also called for a thorough investigation into the attack and urged the international community to condemn such acts of violence targeting innocent civilians and maritime vessels.
