SAN Mateo, Isabela – Hog raisers and stakeholders foresee a remarkable growth in the province’s swine industry with the forging of an agreement creating a “30-sow level techno-demo farm under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program.

The accord, signed last Sept. 3 at the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI-RTC 02) here seeks to restore the local swine industry’s ability to generate an adequate quantity of hogs and pork locally by means of a repopulation and improvement program.

Dr. Claris Marayag-Alaska, director of the ATI-RTC 02, highlighted the purpose of the INSPIRE initiative.

Dr. Maurianne Turingan, coordinator of the ATI-RTC 02 livestock program, provided an overview of the project.

San Guillermo Mayor Felipe Guyud Jr. expressed gratitude for the project granted to the San Francisco Norte Women’s Organization in his town.

“As the counterpart of the LGU (local government unit), we will help you extend the road to your farm to make it more accessible. We are thankful because even though our town is small, we were given this program. Expect us to work with ATI on their programs to improve the lives of our citizens,” Guyud said.

The project aims to raise the standard of swine in the area and add to the availability of quality pork for the province.
