Iloilo City – A massive wave struck Zone 5 in Molo Boulevard on Sunday morning, July 21, destroying 20 homes along the coast.

Barangay Captain John Villanueva reported that 14 houses were completely destroyed, while six were partially damaged. He estimated that around 30 families were affected by the incident.

Ana Santos, a long-time resident of the area, shared that they have been living there for 30 years, and their house often gets damaged during bad weather, especially when the waves are strong.

Santos mentioned that they were unable to save anything, as the waves carried away their clothes and household items.

Her child was unable to save important documents like birth certificates, uniforms, and school supplies. The Santos family was among the four households whose homes were completely destroyed along the Molo Boulevard shoreline.

According to the high tide forecast for Iloilo City, the water level reached 1.99 meters, causing flooding in several areas of the barangay.

Affected families have been temporarily relocated to Baluarte Elementary School, which has been converted into an evacuation center.

The Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office has distributed food and non-food items to assist those in need.
