Filipino designers join German lifestyle trade fair

FAME, the Philippines’ longest-running export promotions program for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and artisan communities in the home, fashion, and lifestyle (HFL) sectors brings the Philippine flag to the global map in its participation at Ambiente 2023, a trade fair to be held in Frankfurt Messe, Germany.

“We are excited for the competitive roster of exhibitors featured in the 2023 edition of Ambiente. A mix of returning and neophyte exporters are set to make a mark on the international stage where our local designs can be appreciated by attendees from different parts of the globe,” said Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) executive director Dr. Edward L. Fereira Ph.D.

CITEM has been supporting FAME as its premier platform to showcasing ingenious and expertly-crafted Philippine products.

The sourcing event is slated on February 3 to 7, 2023 with 30 local exhibitors in the HFL industries to be showcased under the DesignPhilippines Brand. About 4,700 global exhibitors have announced their participation, ensuring Ambiente to be the world’s biggest trade fair platform of its kind.

With the theme “Moving the future,” the 2023 edition of Ambiente aims to showcase a unique mix of ideas and products and provide a major platform for global trends.

The first comeback of the show after its three-year break is simultaneously staged at three venues for the first time. Ambiente is set to be joined by Christmasworld and Creativeworld in order to maximize the visitors’ sourcing experience. The show prioritizes four product areas – dining, living, gving, and working. These segments consider sustainability, material innovation, and design breakthroughs and trends.

The Philippine pavilion continues the narrative “Hands that work” from its previous participation in 2020. The theme is inspired by the fine workmanship and creative use of natural materials by the local communities that cultivate homegrown crafts. The participating MSMEs have sustainability and social development in mind, and are given labor opportunities brought by the continuously strengthened export industry.

“The strong presence of our homegrown products empower the Filipino craft and lets us cater to more markets, therefore allowing our MSMEs to have a wider reach. Our team at CITEM is committed to offering the world a global range of export-ready products,” Fereira said.

Out of the 30 participating exhibitors, 10 are from Tarlac, the country’s Partner Artisan Community. The province, known for its craftsmanship and design prowess, highlights their design expertise to capture the European market in the upcoming global trade fair.

The Philippine participation is also geared to complement signature trade show Manila FAME’s return to the physical floor at the World Trade Center in Pasay City in October 2023. The Philippine pavilion at Ambiente 2023 is spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through CITEM.
