Robinsons Hotels and Resorts (RHR) signed a power supply agreement (PSA) with Skye Renewables to transition several hotels to renewable energy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
“We needed a partner who could help us transition efficiently to renewable energy, and Skye Renewables met all our requirements,” said RHR senior vice president and business unit general manager Barun Jolly during the agreement signing at Robinsons Cyberscape Alpha.
The partnership will initially focus on three hotels—Summit Hotel Naga, Go Hotels Plus Naga and Grand Summit General Santos—which will be powered by rooftop solar systems featuring advanced building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) technology.
The initiative is a key step in RHR’s broader sustainability strategy, contributing to their goal of sourcing 10 percent of energy from renewable sources.
RHR said Skye was able to meet the three criteria to seal the agreement and these include credibility, the ability to meet RHR’s specific needs, and a long-term commitment to the project.
“For hotels, solar energy isn’t just an environmental initiative, it’s also an economic one. Our properties represent significant capital investments, so protecting them is critical. Skye not only addressed our concerns about installation impact but also offered practical solutions and committed to resolving any potential issues. Such dedication is rare in this industry,” Jolly said.
Apart from adopting renewable energy, RHR is actively pursuing other initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint.
RHR vice president Annalyn Yap highlighted ongoing efforts, including replacing single-use plastic amenities with bulk dispensers and offering water in glass bottles across its international brands.
RHR operates 26 hotels across the Philippines, with plans to expand its solar initiative to additional properties.
“This partnership is a pilot project. If successful, we plan to extend it to more hotels in our portfolio, potentially covering all 30 properties, including four new hotels soon to open,” Jolly said.
