Factories asked to build own power supply

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is encouraging factories in the Philippines to consider setting up their own power supply.

DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual said the government is trying to address a recurring concern among foreign investors over high electricity costs.

“We’re encouraging companies that set up factories here to have their own power supply,” Pascual said.

“Foreign investors have consistently complained about high power costs in the Philippines. Setting up their own renewable power source, such as a solar farm, allows them to secure a stable and potentially cheaper source of energy,” he said.

He said independent power generation could significantly reduce costs for manufacturers, making the Philippines a more attractive investment destination.
