Taiheiyo Cement eyes  P18-b PH expansion

Taiheiyo Cement Corp. of Japan is doubling down on the Philippines with a P18.85-billion expansion plan.’

Its local subsidiary Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI), will construct a new cement distribution terminal in Calaca, Batangas with a further plan to upgrade its existing San Fernando plant to boost production capacity.

The San Fernando plant upgrade will incorporate state-of-the-art technology designed to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and facilitate waste recycling. It signifies a major investment in the Philippines, as reported by Department of Trade and Industry field office in Japan.

Philippine commercial counselor to Tokyo Dita Angara-Mathay said Taiheiyo submitted a letter of intent in February 2023, outlining a total investment of 54 billion yen, with potential to create 2,000 jobs Taiheiyo operates a plant in San Fernando, Cebu.

Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual met with senior executives from Taiheiyo Cement and discussed the company’s future investment plans and the potential for even deeper collaboration.
