The Philippines posted the highest growth of 27 percent in smartphone shipments in Southeast Asia (SEA) in the first quarter of 2024, market intelligence data provider International Data Corp. (IDC) said Thursday.
The Philippines tied with Indonesia, among the six nations tracked by IDC on smartphone shipments.
Smartphone shipments in Southeast Asia continued to grow since mid-2023 due to the recovery of the ultra-low-end segment which posted the highest gains, reaching 29 percent in the first quarter of 2024 from 20 percent in 2023.
While Samsung maintained its lead in the region, it only ranked third in the Philippines, outrun by Transsion at top place and Xiaomi at the second.
Transsion sales in the Philippines surged 188 percent in the first quarter from only 20 percent growth a year ago.
