With August serving as History Month, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Museo ng Sining held the first Historians’ Fair and Fun Games to celebrate the occasion, honor the country’s history, and raise awareness about its culture.

Kicking off on Aug. 8 with an opening ceremony at the GSIS Museo ng Sining in Pasay, the three-day event featured several activities such as exhibits, booths, lectures, games, and more. The first day saw the opening of booths by various history associations, as well as a book fair and promotions of associations, museums, and heritage conservation initiatives, which all continued until the last day of the fair on Aug. 10.

There were also lectures by Dr. Jaime Veneracion and Dr. Lars Ubaldo about the future of history as a course in light of changes in the educational curriculum, as well as a discussion by renowned historian Dr. Xiao Chua about Juan Luna and his works.

The second day, Aug. 9, featured a lecture by former National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) chairman Dr. Emmanuel Calairo about the various forms of media that can be used to teach history, followed by a book signing. Ambeth Ocampo also graced the celebration with a talk and book signing of his work “Cabinet of Curiosities: History from Philippine Artifacts.”
