THE Civil Service Commission (CSC) is set to celebrate its 124th year with a nationwide tree planting activity slated on Sept. 15-21, 2024.
CSC chairman Karlo Nograles called on government officials, employees, and people from non-government organizations and private institutions to participate in the event, aimed at planting at least 10,000 tree saplings, while at the same time raising funds for the agency’s Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) Program for the benefit of the families of “fallen civil servants.”
“The third week of the PCSA (Philippine Civil Service Anniversary), themed Linggo ng Malasakit sa Kalikasan, highlights the significance of sustainable environmental efforts and natural resource management,” Nograles said.
“This nationwide tree-growing activity not only focuses on environmental conservation, but also serves as a tribute to those who gave their lives in service, fostering a sense of patriotism,” he added.
CSC Regional Office VI, in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), will spearhead the activity meant to contribute to climate change mitigation through tree-growing and to promote environmental stewardship.
In the National Capital Region and Region IV, the CSC and DENR partnered with the Laguna Lake Development Authority to plant seedlings along the 28 local government units surrounding Laguna de Bay.
The location and specific date of the tree-planting project in other regions will be announced by the CSC regional offices via their official Facebook Pages and the PCSA microsite at csc.gov.ph/pcsa2024.
Interested parties may coordinate with their nearest CSC regional office for the registration link and payment of P250-registration fee.
Walk-in participants may also be allowed at the discretion of the CSC regional offices.
The CSC added that participants, including partner-agencies and stakeholders will receive a certificate of participation.
“As we celebrate another year of successful public service, we also need to remember the critical need to care for our planet. We are excited for the support of both the public and private sectors in our goal to promote environmentalism and patriotism,” Nograles said.
The annual PCSA celebration is in observance of the establishment of the Philippine Civil Service on Sept. 19, 1900 through Public Law No. 5 or “An Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of an Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippine Islands”.
For this year, the PCSA celebration shall focus on the importance of “sustainable management for the achievement of a future-ready civil service, as reflected in the ten-year theme, “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes”.
The other upcoming activities lined up for the 124th PCSA include a medical mission dubbed Medical Relief for the Underprivileged, bloodletting, national coastal clean-up drive, awards rites for the 2024 outstanding government workers, 2024 Leaders and Human Resource Symposium, and Contact Center ng Bayan Partner Recognition Program.
