House Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro has welcomed the signing of the Teaching Supply Allowance (TSA) Act, calling it a landmark legislation that will provide public school teachers with a significant boost in their teaching tools and resources.

“This is a long-overdue recognition of the crucial role our teachers play in shaping the minds of our future generations. With the signing of the TSA Act, our hardworking teachers will finally have the necessary funds to purchase the teaching tools they need to deliver quality education to our students,” Castro said.

The law mandates the Department of Education to provide each public basic education teacher with a cash allowance of P10,000 starting on school year 2025-2026 and onwards.

The allowance is exempted from income tax, providing a significant relief to teachers who have long borne the burden of shouldering the cost of teaching supplies out of their own pockets.

As principal author of the bill, Castro said she has been advocating for the passage of the TSA Act for over a decade.

"I am thrilled that after years of perseverance, our teachers will finally receive the support they deserve," she added.

“The TSA Act is a testament to the power of persistence and collective action. We look forward to its implementation, which will undoubtedly improve the quality of education in our public schools,” Castro said.
