PDEA destroys P4.51b worth of illegal drugs

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday burned over 725 kilos of shabu and other illegal drugs worth P4.51 billion in an incinerator in Cavite.

The destruction of the seized drugs was carried out with the permission of the courts where the materials were presented as evidence.

PDEA director general Moro Virgilio Lazo supervised the destruction of the illegal drugs and banned substances weighing over 725 kilos at the Integrated Waste Management facility in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City.

At least 530 kilos of shabu seized by the National Bureau of Investigation in Mexico, Pampanga in September 2023 were among those that went to smoke.

Some of the illegal drugs and controlled substances consisted of more than 535,352 grams of marijuana, 3,219 grams of ecstasy and 7,423 grams of cocaine.

The drugs involved were seized from various anti-drug operations conducted by the PDEA, along  with its counterpart law enforcement and military units.

Exposed to temperatures of over 1,000 degrees centigrade, all dangerous drugs are completely decomposed or broken down and are impossible to reconstitute.

Representatives from the Department of Justice, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, other law enforcement agencies, the media and non-government organizations as well as local officials of Barangay Aguado witnessed the drug destruction.
