DAVAO CITY—Councilor Bernard Al-ag of the 3rd District officially took his oath as the new vice mayor of Davao after Paolo Duterte resigned from the post last year.

Al-ag took his oath on Wednesday and vowed continuity of the vice mayoralty’s programs.

“I can assure the public that there will be continuity in terms of the programs that Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte started. I will also pledge that the entire city council will support Mayor Sara (Duterte) in all legislative aspects,” he said.

Al-ag said there will be a minor reshuffling in the city council since he will vacate the majority floor leader and committee on rules positions.

“Other than the two committees, there will be no revamp, we will work with our individual committees after we appoint the new heads of those two committees,” he said.

Al-ag also vowed that all staff of the former vice mayor will not be left jobless and will be transferred to other offices instead.

He said that under his leadership, the 18th City Council will try to reach out to the public more and will ensure easy access to information.

In March, the city council will implement a paperless session, wherein all members of the city will use a laptop instead as part of the city’s transition to a paperless system.

Councilors will undergo training on how to use the new system next month in the city councilor’s lounge.
