THE Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, two collegiate powerhouses with a long history of sports rivalry, clash anew in the 30th Ateneo-La Salle Golf Classic slated on Sept. 18 in Antipolo City.
An explosive competition from both schools is keenly awaited as the Blue Eagles bid for back-to-back wins, although many are expecting the Green Archers to go all out to halt that and reclaim the coveted title.
Though some of the best golfers come from these schools, it is exciting to watch how they will conquer the fairways and greens of the Forest Hills Golf Club, which is hosting the tournament for the first time.
Players from the Open, Year 1969 and below and Decade 70-79 will tackle the lengthy course by Jack Nicklaus, while those from Decade 80-89, 90 and up and ladies’ divisions, will play the Arnold Palmer layout.
“No one has the advantage. It would be nice to see them compete without any edge,” said the joint organizing committee representing Ateneo and La Salle.
Registration has already begun for the one-day event, which is open to all alumni and students of Jesuit or Christian Brother’s schools qualified by and conditional to having graduated at least two (2) years.
The tournament fee is P 4,000 that includes green fee, golf cart, giveaways, awards lunch, raffle stub and two (2) mulligans, which can be used anytime and anywhere except the putting green.
