5 annual medical exams every woman should take

Women who want to take charge of their life should start with their health. Considering there are several diseases to which females are more prone, it’s vital to get yourself checked before you get sick. As the old adage says, prevention is, and will always be, better than cure.

OB-Gyn Faith Suluen enumerates five annual medical exams that women should make time for.

Pap Smear and Pelvic Exam

It’s the quick screening test/procedure that detects precancerous or cancerous cells from papillomavirus or HPV. Dr. Suluen therefore recommends this to women who are sexually active by age 21 or those with a family history of cervical cancer.

“If you haven’t had a cervical vaccination, don’t hesitate to talk to your OB-Gyn or employer or health card provider to check if it’s part of your package,” advises Dr. Suluen.

Transvaginal Ultrasound

Highly recommended for checking irregularities or possible cysts, pelvic pain, unexplained vaginal bleeding, and more. The ultrasound probe allows the doctor to see a bird’s eye view of a woman’s reproductive system’s organs, including uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, and vagina, with more accurate results.

WOMEN TAKE CHARGE. OB-Gyn Faith Suluen lists down five annual medical exams women should take in order to prevent diseases.

Mammogram and Breast Ultrasound

Although breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide, it is curable and controllable with the help of early detection and regular screening. Mammogram (for 40 years old and above) and Breast Ultrasound (for 40 years old and below) are powerful tools to help women determine their mammary health even before they experience any adverse symptom.

Routine Urinalysis

It is considered one of the simplest yet most powerful screening tests that detects UTI, kidney disorders, liver problems, and diabetes, as well as diagnose specific disorders such as endocrine diseases and bladder cancer.

“Even if you don’t feel any abdominal or back pain and abnormalities in your urine, it’s a preventive test that will keep your urinary system at the pink of its health,” emphasizes Dr. Suluen.

Blood Chemistry Test

Regularly monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol helps in preventing stroke and heart disease. Dr. Suluen points out that women 20 years old and above should maintain a biannual blood pressure monitoring and cholesterol checking every four to six years, “but perhaps more frequently if age, weight, lifestyle habits, and family history are major factors of developing your risks.”

On top of these annual medical examinations that care for women’s reproductive health, among others, Dr. Suluen strongly advises the use of quality sanitary pad, like Jeunesse Anion, during their period.

“Since its anion strip feature greatly helps in reducing feminine discomforts like dysmenorrhea, cramps, and icky odor, consider this to be one of your most valuable essentials as a smart and wellness-conscious woman,” she avers.

Jeunesse is available in five variants: panty liner, ultra day pad, ultra day non-wing, ultra night pad, and all night pad.

Jeunesse Anion Sanitary Napkin and Liners are available in supermarkets, department stores, drugstores, and health and beauty stores nationwide.
