Law enforcement authorities and a concerned citizen rescued an abandoned newborn baby early Monday morning, December 23, along Santol Road corner McArthur Highway in Brgy. Potrero, Malabon City.
Marlyn Amado, a 20-year-old vendor and resident of the village, found the baby at around 6:40 a.m. The infant was placed in a red eco bag and left on the side of the road.
Amado immediately reported the situation to Police Lieutenant Benedicto Zafra and his team patrolling the area for Sub-Station 1 of Malabon City Police Station. The officers secured the area to ensure well-being of the child.
Emergency services were contacted and the infant was transported to MakaTao Hospital for immediate medical evaluation and care. The baby is currently under observation at the hospital and receiving all necessary medical attention.
Authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the person(s) who abandoned the baby. The primary focus remains ensuring the child’s safety and welfare.
The Northern Police District (NPD) through officer-in-charge Colonel Josefino Ligo commended the quick response of police officers and the vigilance of Amado. Her prompt notification was instrumental in saving the life of the newborn.
“The NPD urges anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to come forward,” the Ligo said.
