Science behind Vionic Footwear

When it comes to putting together a polished outfit, there’s no denying that most women are willing to sacrifice comfort for style. Unfortunately, most women are unaware of the potential damage that poorly designed shoes can have on their feet. Understanding this risk, Vionic, a fashion-forward footwear brand, aspires to change this by infusing science and style in each of its footwear.

Our feet were naturally designed to walk on the soft and natural surfaces of the earth—the soil, grass, and sand. But because most of our modern world is now covered in pavements and streets, we tread on these flat, hard, and unnatural surfaces almost daily. The weight that we bear against these surfaces may cause our feet to lose their natural alignment, which causes other problems in our bodies such as heel, knee and back pains. This is especially true for people who have excess weight, such as women who are pregnant or overweight individuals.

Vionic aims to reduce the damage to our feet caused by this misalignment. With the help of Dr. Phillip Vasyli, who had more than 30 years of podiatric practice, Vionic developed built-in orthotics in its footwear that help maintain the natural alignment of our feet while standing and walking. By achieving this natural alignment, Vionic helps our feet move more naturally against flat, hard surfaces, which in turn help alleviate heel discomfort.

The science in each Vionic footwear consists of various features that include deep heel cups that enhance stability; firm yet flexible midsoles that help the feet bend more naturally; and arch supports that cradle and hug our feet as though they are gently pressing on soil or sand with each step.

Because of this innovation and science-backed features, many of Vionic’s styles have been accepted by the American Podiatric Association, which certifies products that are beneficial for foot health. Furthermore, one of Vionic’s sandals is clinically proven to alleviate heal pain. In the Philippines, Vionic is also growing in popularity among foot healthcare professionals.

“Vionic is the only product I’ve seen in the market that has built in orthotics that help my patients. I used to recommend orthotics to my patients who have plantar fasciitis. But now I can recommend Vionic to those who have this problem,” said Dr. Roberto Lopez, of the Philippine Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.

“I have seen how Vionic helps improve the body’s alignment by merely aligning the feet in the correct position. If we achieve good alignment, we can eliminate most aches and pains in our feet and back, especially for those who stand or walk for a long time everyday.” explains Dwight Guieb, registered physical therapist. “I have in fact recommended Vionic to some of my patients.”

Vionic recently opened retail stores at Uptown Bonifacio and Ayala Malls The 30th. Women don’t have to choose between comfort and style when it comes to footwear. With Vionic, they are now able to walk, move, and live free from heel pain.
