THE league-leading San Miguel Beermen try to tighten their grip on first place as it plunges back to action in the final playdate of the year in the 2016-17 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.

The Beermen (4-1) shoot for another win tonight but standing in their way are the skidding Meralco Bolts (2-3) as the two teams face each other at 7 p.m. Earlier, the GlobalPort Batang Pier (3-2) and the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Master (3-3) lock horns 4:15 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Being the veteran championship team that it is, San Miguel has been steady all conference long thus far.

Its consistent play has once again placed it at the top of the heap.

Still, San Miguel coach Leo Austria doesn’t want any relaxation from his team, especially against the dangerous Bolts.

“We can’t afford to have a complacent game against any team even if we’re at the top,” said Austria.

The Beermen are also well-rested, heading the game following a 16-day layoff.
