Filipino students sweep Singapore Challenge Cup

Filipino students dominated the recently concluded Singapore Challenge Cup, winning multiple gold and silver awards at the international dance competition held at the Gateway Theater in Bukit Merah. The event featured classical and modern dance genres, attracting participants from around the world.

Young dancers from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s School of Arts, Culture, and Performance (DLS-CSB SACP) took center stage, securing two golds in the Hip-Hop categories. Angela Carmeli Doloroso, Miranda Cathrine Gillego, and Ana Gabrielle Nipales won gold in the Trio, 20+ Division with their Hip-Hop piece, Androgyny, addressing contemporary themes of feminism and androgyny. They also claimed another gold for their group performance, Sitsiritsit: A Mirroring of Filipino Youth, which showcased Filipino indigenous games through hip-hop.

Alyssi Lynett Fandiño also triumphed, winning silver in the Solo Category for ages 16-19 with her contemporary piece, Often a Bird. The choreography, created by Filipino ballet dancer Ma. Elena Laniog-Alvarez, explored naturalism in movement.
