New storybook guides kids’ digital adventures with cyber safety tips

PLDT and Smart have partnered with Kids for Kids PH and the Positive Youth Development Network (PYDN) to create a storybook aimed at promoting children’s rights and online safety. Titled Ang Paglalakbay ni Tala (The Adventures of Tala), the book follows Tala, who explores the metaverse and learns about her rights and how to protect them while becoming aware of online dangers.

“PLDT and Smart believe that child protection, especially in the digital age, begins at home. This storybook provides an opportunity for parents and guardians to discuss internet safety with their children, helping them #BeCyberSmart and protect themselves from online and offline threats,” said Stephanie V. Orlino, AVP and Head of Stakeholder Management at PLDT and Smart.

The storybook also includes activities designed to enhance cybersecurity awareness among young readers, teaching them to identify and avoid cyber threats such as cyberbullying and inappropriate content. It encourages safe online habits and the importance of protecting personal information, while also promoting kindness, respect, and responsibility in digital spaces.

Launched during the National Children’s Month and in support of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) efforts to combat human trafficking and child violence, the book aligns with PLDT and Smart’s ongoing internet safety initiatives under their #BeCyberSmart program.

The campaign connects PLDT with schools, businesses, and local organizations to raise awareness about online threats and cyberattacks.

PLDT and Smart continue to collaborate with agencies such as the DOJ, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), the Department of Education (DepEd), as well as partners like Kids for Kids PH and PYDN, to ensure a safe digital environment for children.

Kids for Kids is a youth-led movement focused on creating safe, creative ecosystems for children through play, storytelling, and placemaking. PYDN is a youth-centered nonprofit that partners with various institutions to implement programs that empower young people.
