In a move to fund ongoing infrastructure improvements, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has approved the second tranche of toll rate adjustments for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

Effective June 4, 2024, the new toll rates will see an increase of P5.00 for Class 1 vehicles (cars and SUVs), P14.00 for Class 2 (buses and small trucks), and P17.00 for Class 3 (larger trucks) in the NLEX open system between Balintawak, Caloocan and Marilao, Bulacan. Drivers traveling the full length of NLEX from Metro Manila to Mabalacat, Pampanga will pay an additional P27.00, P68.00, and P81.00 for the respective vehicle classes.

The toll hike is part of adjustments approved in the NLEX’s 2018 and 2020 petitions, but were previously deferred in two tranches to ease the financial burden on motorists amidst high inflation. The first tranche was implemented in May 2023. According to TRB, the additional revenue will fund critical infrastructure projects that have already greatly improved safety and efficiency on the expressway.

Looking ahead, NLEX has an ambitious slate of expansion and decongestion initiatives planned for 2024 and beyond. Through these investments, NLEX aims to further bolster its role as a vital economic artery connecting Metro Manila to the provinces of Central and North Luzon. Despite the toll increase, the expressway operator believes the improvements will deliver long-term benefits for both commercial and leisure travelers
