Real estate sector gets digital boost from Globe Business

As homes turn into offices and classrooms and workspaces minimize their capacity, Globe Business is all set to help real estate developers redesign their properties to seamlessly integrate digital solutions that meet people’s evolving lifestyles.

Peter Maquera, SVP for Globe Business, Enterprise Group, gave the assurance during Globe Business’ Regional Insights and Strategies for Enterprises (R.I.S.E.) webinar on “Building a Digitally-Connected Future in Real Estate Today.”

“We understand this reality, and we want to be with real estate developers in their journey, bringing them global competitiveness by enabling them with the right technology.  Together, we can build a digitally connected future in real estate,” he said.

According to Maquera, property developers can no longer focus only on the physical space.  Instead, the physical and digital realms should blend perfectly so that people can collaborate in a more distributed way, whether on location or remote.

“We can do more to redesign spaces, making sure that the spaces people are in complement the new world they live in. Now more than ever, we need to make sure everyone has accessible, reliable, and fast internet to accommodate different needs,” he added.

Frederick Go, President and CEO of Robinsons Land Corporation, is already looking forward to designing their properties together with Globe.

“I think the design of real estate is always about five years backward, ten years backward, or even 15 years backward, depending on the age of the designer. I think [Globe] can teach us a lot of things, how to design the project so that the buyers and the workers in our office buildings are happy with what we provide them.  That it is telco ready, data ready,” Go said.

Franco Soberano, EVP and COO of Cebu Landmasters, Inc., seconded Go’s statement.

“I guess we're expecting designers, who are very forward-looking, and I'm sure this new breed of designers, auxiliary or electrical designers, will come in,” he said.

Aside from basic connectivity, Globe is continuously building more use cases for 5G technology that can power the Internet of Things (IoT). 5G and IoT, when combined, can feed real-time insights from data gathered from different connected devices.

The technology can be useful in property management, such as managing the efficiency of heating and cooling equipment, providing intelligent security monitoring and emergency response for tenants online, billing and payments, repairs and maintenance, and even food delivery, groceries, and laundry.

Globe has ramped up its efforts to upgrade its network infrastructure to help customers with data and internet connection for all these use cases. The company is building 2,000 new cell towers and laying down 1 million fiber to the home lines just for this year alone and continues to roll out 5G in more areas nationwide.

“Telco, or internet, or connectivity at home is not optional. It's as important as water. It’s as important as power. It is a necessity. It is a lifeline for your customers,” Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu concluded.

R.I.S.E. speakers included Leechiu Property Consultants CEO David Leechiu and Havitas Developments Chairman and Co-Founder Alejandro Manalac.

Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 9, which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development, and UN SDG No. 11, which places importance on building sustainable cities and communities. Globe is committed to upholding the UN Global Compact Principles and contributing to the 10 of 17 UN SDGs.
