Bo Perasol has quit as head coach of the University of the Philippines men’s basketball team after four seasons with the team.

Perasol left following months of inactivity for many participating varsity teams and with two seasons of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines getting cancelled because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Perasol may not be completely out of the squad, since there are offers from the team’s supporters for him to stay on as part of team management.

“I promised UP after Season 82 that I will stay for another season just to sustain the rebuilding process which started many many years back, coming off from zero wins back then. Unfortunately, the pandemic has impacted us all, including the dynamics of the playing field. It has sadly changed my views, plans and priorities, too,” said Perasol in a statement.

After settling for third place at the end of the elimination round with an 8-6 slate, the Fighting Maroons won over the twice-to-beat Adamson  Falcons in the Final Four of Season 81.

This earned them the right to face Ateneo Blue Eagles in the finals, where they lost.

“We have gotten this far in just four seasons under my helm, that is unprecedented in fact. But the team still needs better plans as always, and a reboot,” added Perasol.

Multi-titled coaches Goldwin Monteverde and Patrick Aquino are among those being considered to replace Perasol.
