Ginebra hopes to overcome fatigue and the team’s tired legs during the one-day break on Thursday as it seeks to bounce back in Game 6 of the 49th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup best-of-seven finals’ series.
Coach Tim Cone said this as he admitted that the squad’s weariness took the best of them when they fell in a 72-99 setback to the TNT Tropang Giga in Game 5 on Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
“So, we gotta get our guys back and rested. We were overly tired, even though we had a two-day break,” said Cone as Ginebra goes for another series deadlock at 3-all.
The Gin Kings, who are seeking to tie the series again, are looking at a 2-3 deficit in the playoffs.
The Tropang Giga are enjoying this advantage and a chance to win the series when they meet again on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Big Dome.
“It’s not the way we planned. But, it’s just one game in the series. It’s not the series. Our job, my job is to win the series, not just one game,” said Cone.
On Wednesday, Justine Brownlee was held to eight points, including a scoreless spell in the last canto, while LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson led with just 13 points apiece.
While Tenorio shot 10 points in the last period, TNT succeeded in also shutting down Scottie Thompson, Stephen Holt and Japeth Aguilar in the remaining 12 minutes of action.
Coach Chot Reyes said the Tropang Giga remain focused.
“Making good decisions, that’s no. 1 for us. No. 2 is that we focus on our strengths — and that’s our defense,” said Reyes.
