Melencio leads swim awardees

Ricielle Maleeka Melencio showcased her dominance in the Philippine Aquatics Inc. (PAI) ‘Go Full Speedo’ Swim Series Leg 2 Championships at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool in Malate, Manila.

The 20-year-old swimming sensation of Ayala Harpoons Swim Club claimed five gold medals, earning her the title of Most Outstanding Swimmer in the premier class of the two-day event organized by PAI and backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and Speedo.

Melencio’s victories included the girls’ 19-over 200-meter backstroke and 1,500-meter freestyle.

“I feel better than the last series regarding training leading to this competition. I’ more prepared now, my goal is to improve my performance and I’m doing better now and mentally ready,” said the Ateneo freshman taking up Management Information System referring to her two golds, 1 silver and two bronze performances in Series 1 last month.

Other notable performances came from SEA Age-Group campaigners Aishel Evangelista, Nicola Queen Diamante, Makoto Nakamura, and Sophia Rose Garra. They also earned Most Outstanding Swimmer awards in their respective age classes.

Other gold medal winners included Rielle Antonio, Eliana Rodriguez, Kristine Uy, Alyssa Cabatian, Milkyla Guzman, Rio Balbuena, Clinton Hu, Fritz Ian Jundam, James Fadriquela, Antonio Dela Cruz, Gideon Ancheta, Aamirah Medinilla, Elle Francia, and Ayesha Valera.

The ‘Go Full Speedo’ Swim Series Leg 2 Championships served as part of the PAI swimmer’s ranking system and showcased the talent and dedication of young Filipino swimmers.
