It seems the ONE Atomweight MMA World Title unification bout between divisional queen Stamp Fairtex and interim champ Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga will happen sooner rather than later.

Stamp saw her good friend earn a shot at her lineal belt after beating Alyona Rassohyna for the ONE Interim Atomweight MMA World Title at ONE Fight Night 27 earlier this month.

Nearly two weeks since that milestone win from Zamboanga, Stamp addressed her recovery in front of thousands of adoring fans at ONE 170 on Friday, January 24, at Impact Arena.

“I think I am getting better and better. I think now, [I’m] 60 to 70 percent better. I hope I can fight soon. I want to show everyone that I can come back,” Stamp said.

She also talked about facing her good friend Zamboanga, who she trained with when she first transitioned to mixed martial arts after a dazzling kickboxing and Muay Thai career.

The 27-year-old isn’t worried about facing her friend, noting how it won’t be hard to put her feelings aside since it’s a World Championship they’ll be battling for.

“It’s easy, I have to do what I have to do. It’s only one ticket, only one belt. I know everybody wants to steal my belt. I want to protect my belt,” she said.

“This is my life, and I want to take it home. Friends mean friends, but I’m an athlete. I’m a professional. So, [let’s] just do it.”

Denice Zamboanga Shares Stamp’s Sentiments

It goes both ways if Zamboanga’s to be asked.

While Stamp will fight to keep what’s hers, the Filipina will fight for something she believes she’s destined to have, especially with all the disappointments she’s had to endure and all the hard work she’s had to put in.

“I can’t wait to face her. We’re friends, yes, but we’re also both professionals who have the same goals,” Zamboanga said.

“I’m taking that belt home to the Philippines.”
