President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed former Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) chief Vince Dizon as new secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), effective February 21, 2025.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced this development on Thursday, February 13, after DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista stepped down from his position citing health reasons.
“He (Dizon) is already authorized by the Office of the President to start the transition at the DOTr in coordination with the team of Secretary Jaime Bautista, who has resigned due to health reasons,” Bersamin said.
Dizon previously served as president and chief executive officer of BCDA during the administration of then President Rodrigo Duterte.
He also advised Duterte on his flagship programs and projects and worked as Deputy Chief Implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19.
In a statement, Bautista confirmed his resignation as DOTr secretary “with utmost integrity” after more than two years of service in the Marcos administration.
Bautista thanked President Marcos for the opportunity to work in his government, which he found both challenging and fulfilling.
The outgoing DOTr chief said he looks forward to a smooth transition and a much-needed vacation to recuperate from two and a half years of intense public service.
Dizon, as incoming secretary, is expected to continue the DOTr’s initiatives aimed at improving the country’s transportation infrastructure and services.
