Caza Del Mar: a rebirth of golf luxury, elegance along the coast

The iconic Puerto Azul golf course, once celebrated as the “Pebble Beach of Asia,” is experiencing a stunning revival under its new name, the Zamora Championship Course.

Situated in Ternate, Cavite, this legendary Gary Player-designed course is being revitalized as part of the ambitious resort development, Caza del Mar, promising a harmonious blend of luxury, sport, and natural beauty.

Originally a favorite among golfers from the 1970s to the 1990s, Puerto Azul was renowned for its breathtaking coastal views reminiscent of Pebble Beach in California.

Now, after years of decline, the course is being meticulously restored to reclaim its place as one of Asia’s premier golf destinations. Though the course is now more open and exposed, most of the features of the old Puerto Azul course were kept, and Gary Player, now in his 80s, would be proud of what it has become.

The revitalization effort is spearheaded by Golforce Inc., a leader in all-weather golf course construction since the 1990s, in collaboration with Salvador “Buddy” Zamora II of Tranzen Group and CDMC under Chairman Toti Cariño. Together, they aim to set a new benchmark for golf courses in the region.

Recently, select members of the media had the opportunity to experience the newly reopened front nine holes. Zamora’s vision of a true championship course is fulfilled by lengthening it from 6,500 yards to 7,200 yards, from par-71 to par-72, making it a full championship course.

Despite the damage caused by recent typhoons, the course has made remarkable progress, with full completion anticipated by the first quarter of 2025.

KEY UPGRADES

Once completed, the Zamora Championship Course will combine challenging play with breathtaking scenery, offering views of the Manila Bay coastline and Corregidor Island.

Fairways are enhanced with restored paspalum turf, ensuring pristine playing surfaces and bunkers are upgraded with the dark gray sand being replaced with crushed marble-like sand for improved aesthetics and playability.

The greens are enhanced with a state-of-the-art drainage system to ensure consistent conditions, even after heavy rains.

PRIVILEGE ACCESS

Caza del Mar is set to become a “privilege access club,” offering memberships through its Privilege Access Playing Rights (PAPR) program. Memberships can be amortized over three to six years for PHP 930,000, or paid in full for PHP 744,000.

These rights, valid until 2039, grant members access to the course, along with exclusive facilities and benefits. Monthly dues apply for course play. A limited slot of 100 PAPRs will be available.

PAPR members gain access to six luxurious villas, tastefully appointed and located beside the 1970s-built original clubhouse, which is also undergoing renovations.

These villas combine modern elegance with historical charm, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.

For those eager to experience Caza del Mar’s unparalleled offerings or learn more about membership, contact Ms. Kaye Cabida at 09628472662 or visit the newly transformed Caza del Mar at Puerto Azul.

With its blend of history, modernity, and natural beauty, Caza del Mar is poised to set a new standard for golfing luxury in the Philippines.
