The San Miguel Beermen celebrated the return of Leo Austria as their coach, with a 106-88 walloping of the Terrafirma Dyip, on Friday evening in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Beermen, led by Torren Lorenzo Jones and Junemar Fajardo, halted a two-game losing skid in beating the Dyip, which remained winless after five games.
Jones shot 24 points and grabbed 13 boards, while Fajardo tallied 21 points and 19 reboounds to spearhead the Beermen to their second triumph in four outings.
“I’m happy to be back as head coach, and with my first win after years of being in the sideline,” said Austria, who learned that he will be back on Thursday evening during San Miguel Corporation’s Christmas party.
Austria, who replaced Jorge Gallent, hopes to extend their winning run when they meet the Blackwater Elite Bossings on Sunday.
The Beermen led by as much as 21 points, and drew 16 points from CJ Perez.
Perez and Trollano took charge with eight points apiece in helping the Beermen move away by 18 points at endgame.
Brandon Walton Edwards knocked in 18 points for the Dyip.
Perez’s layup with 34 ticks to go, saw the Beermen enjoying a 21-point edge, before the game was over.
Trollano’s split charity in the 7:19 mark handed the Beermen a 16-point edge, 88-72.
