PH teener Madis completes tennis sweep in Taipei meet

TENNY Madis made a stunning mark in Taipei by winning both the singles and doubles’ titles at the ITF J60 Changhua tournament in Taipei.

Madis defeated Rira Kosaka, 6-0, 6-4 in their singles’ tussle.

The win came a day after her doubles’ victory with partner Stefi Aludo, making it a double celebration for the pride of M’lang, North Cotabato.

Madis entered the tournament as the second seed and dominated throughout, not losing a single set and conceding only seven games across five matches.

Her consistent and commanding play culminated in a decisive victory in the singles’ final against the third-seeded Japanese opponent.

In the doubles, she and Aludo, also seeded second, upset the top-seeded pair of Kosaka and Ching Laam Lai from Hong Kong with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win in the final.

The triumph in Taipei added to Madis’s incredible streak this year, which includes five singles’ titles.

These victories began in July at the J30 Makati PHINMA Week 1 and Week 2 events and continued with J60 titles in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Nonthaburi, Thailand, before her latest success in Changhua.

She has also secured four doubles’ titles during this period, all with Aludo as her partner.

Starting with zero points and no ranking in July, Madis’s meteoric rise in the World Junior Rankings will now see her break into the top 300.

Madis looks forward to competing in two major tournaments in Hong Kong this December.
