SENIOR wushu athlete Jones Inso Llabres ensured the Philippine flag was proudly raised at the 4th World Taijiquan Championships, clinching the gold medal in the Men’s Chen Style 56 Movements category of the prestigious tournament held recently in Singapore.

Aside from Llabres’ gold, the Philippine wushu team brought home three silver medals and a bronze.

Tate Matthew Chuang capped off the team’s impressive campaign, earning a silver in the Men’s Yang Style Taijiquan 40 Movements and a bronze in the Men’s Wuhao Style Taijiquan.

Southeast Asian Games champion Agatha Wong continued her podium streak by securing a silver medal in the Women’s 42 Movements Taijiquan.

Meanwhile, junior athlete Zion Daraliay made her mark by grabbing a silver in the Women’s 24 Movements Taijiquan.

The 4th World Taijiquan Championships attracted 325 participants from 32 countries and regions, representing five continents.

As one of the six major official events organized by the International Wushu Federation, this world-class competition serves as a premier platform for Taijiquan elites to showcase their skills and exchange knowledge.

This year’s championships featured two main categories—competition events and demonstration events.

The competition events were divided into optional routines, new standardized routines, and compulsory routines. Demonstration events included both compulsory and traditional routines, covering a wide array of Taijiquan styles, including Sun, Wu, Yang, Chen, and Wu.

Wushu is set to make its debut as an official competition event at the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, featuring Taijiquan All-Around (Taijiquan & Taijishan) events.

Notably, this championship also introduced optional and compulsory routines for Taijishan, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s evolution.
