Las Piñas City—Gerald Aguilar brought honor to the University of Perpetual Help and the City of Las Pin̈as after winning the gold in the table tennis event of the Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City at the end of the annual tournament on Sunday.
Aguilar, an incoming Grade 12 Senior High, defeated his competitor in the finals, John Paul Soriano of Region 1 with a score of 11-6, 11-5 and 11-8 to win the title in the Secondary Boys’ Singles event for Team National Capital Region.
Aguilar, the champion and Most Valuable Player in the recently concluded National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 for the Perpetual Help Altas, was guided by coaches Kirby Colis and Jun Glorioso.
Meanwhile, incoming Grade 12 JR Castro of the Junior Altas Tracksters bagged a bronze medal in the javelin throw event with a distance of 56.45 in the 700-grams category.
