DTI checks prices of essential ‘Undas’ items; CAAP ready for travel surge in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY—The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Western Visayas assured Wednesday that essential items like bottled water and candles remain priced within reach for consumers across Panay and Guimaras provinces this 2024 ‘Undas’ weekend.

Recent price monitoring showed the DTI’s continuing efforts to keep these items accessible during the observance of the holidays.

DTI Western Visayas Regional Director Rachel Nufable noted that suggested retail prices (SRP) for essential goods were steady since January, with some brands of bottled water in Iloilo City seeing price drops of up to 12 percent. Candles from certain manufacturers were also down by 4.3 percent.

“This trend underscores our commitment to ensuring fair prices for essential goods,” Nufable said.

Based on the SRP, bottled water prices range from P8.25 to P 75, while candles are priced between P33.42 and P177.71, depending on brand, size, and quantity.

Sellers are advised to adhere to these prices, with penalties applicable for any unjustified price increases. DTI is also monitoring flower prices, anticipating higher demand during the season.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Western Visayas is preparing for a projected 7 to 10 percent increase in passenger traffic at Iloilo International Airport as part of “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos Undas 2024” from October 31 to November 5.

The initiative aims to streamline airport operations for the expected influx of travelers.

CAAP Western Visayas Area Manager Engr. Eusebio Monserate, Jr. confirmed that Malasakit help desks are set up to assist passengers, particularly in case of any flight delays. Help kits will also be distributed to enhance passenger safety and confidence.

The civil aviation body encourages travelers to monitor flight updates, adhere to security guidelines, and prepare for a smooth travel experience.
