University of Perpetual Help System Dalta is determined to end its misfortunes when it competes in Season 99 National Collegiate Athletic Association Cheerleading Championship on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.

After four consecutive bridesmaid finishes, the Altas Perpsquad is in a perfect position to bring the crown back to the Las Piñas campus following months of intense preparations.

Perpsquad head coach Ruffa Rosario said that contrary to the previous season, when they had 13 rookies, they will parade only two newcomers this year, making it easier for them to execute the routines and stunts with precision, grace and accuracy.

“Now we are in mental training, not like last season, we are still chasing some skills, now we pulled out mental training,” said Rosario, who is looking to lead the Dr./BGen Antonio Tamayo-owned institution to its 10th cheerdance title.

“What I tell them is that there is no next round in the cheerleading competition. It’s a one-day tournament. If we lose now, our chance to gain revenge will be next season. It’s like competing in track and field,” Rosario added.

The Altas Perpsquad holds the most crowns in the CLC before their dominance was ended by the now ‘5-peat-seeking’ Arellano Chiefsquad.

This year’s order of performance for the schools is as follows: Mapua Cheering Cardinals, Arellano Chiefsquad, LPU Pirates Pep Squad, Golden Stags Cheerleading Squad, Letran Cheering Squad, Altas Perpsquad, San Beda Red Corps, JRU Pep Squad, EAC Generals Pep Squad and Benilde Blazers Pep Squad.

The Altas Perpsquad performs in the last NCAA Season 98 Cheerleading Competition. They now aim to reclaim the crown this Season 99 on Wednesday at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. (Dennis Abrina)
