Filipino-American gymnast LeVi Jung-Ruivivar secured her ticket to the Paris Olympics by clinching a silver medal in the women’s uneven bars final at the Doha leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series.
The 17-year-old Ruivivar, demonstrating her remarkable recovery from injury, showcased her talent and resilience on the global stage.
Her impressive performance not only earned her a spot in the Paris Olympics but also highlighted her potential as a rising star in the world of gymnastics.
Ruivivar’s achievement adds her name to the esteemed list of Philippine qualifiers for the Paris Olympics, alongside weightlifters John Ceniza, Elreen Ando, and Vanessa Sarno, who secured their spots in the Philippine delegation after the International Weightlifting Federation World Cup in Phuket, Thailand.
Furthermore, another weightlifter, Rosegie Ramos, is poised to secure an additional slot through her strong ranking in the women’s 49-kg category.
Ruivivar’s accomplishment underscores the growing prominence of Filipino athletes on the international stage. Her journey to the Olympics serves as an inspiration to aspiring gymnasts and reflects the Philippines’ commitment to excellence in sports.
As an incoming freshman at Stanford University, Ruivivar’s dedication to her sport is evident, and her success at such a young age bodes well for her future in gymnastics.
Despite facing tough competition, Ruivivar’s determination and hard work paid off as she clinched the silver medal with a score of 13.633 points, narrowly behind French-Algerian star Kayla Nemour.
While Nemour had already secured her spot in the Paris Olympics, Ruivivar’s performance solidified her own qualification.
“LeVi’s mom, Yvonne, expressed her joy over her daughter’s improvement. “She improved her score from the last meet. She is happy with the improvement in preparation for Asian Championships,” in an interview with the Manila Standard.
Celebrating her silver medal victory, LeVi’s triumph comes a year after undergoing surgery due to a foot injury sustained last year.
