Western Mindanao State University wins volleyball gold in PH ROTC Games

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) defeated Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College (RMMC), 25-7, 25-14, 25-14, to capture the gold medal in the Philippine Air Force (PAF) category of the 1st Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games Mindanao leg women’s volleyball competition at the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) here on Saturday.

The bronze medal went to Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College, which scored a 25-0, 25-0, 25-7 victory over HMIJ Philippine Islamic College, Inc.

Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) and ZPPSU were also crowned champions in their respective categories.

JRMSU downed Davao del Sur State  College, 25-12, 25-8, 25-16, claimed the gold medal in Philippine Army while Dr. Aurelio Mendoza  Memorial College bagged the bronze medal after surviving Southern Capital College, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.

ZPPSU prevailed over Davao del Norte State College in the Philippine Navy final.

Meanwhile, RMMC bounced back in the men’s 3×3 basketball by beating KCAST to claim the gold medal for Philippine Army at the Sta. Maria Central School Covered Court.

The other gold medalists were JRMSU (Army) and Our Lady of Triumph Institute of Technology-Pagadian.

Army topped the medal tally board with 28 golds, 28 silvers and 36 bronzes followed by Navy (15-14-8) and Air Force (11-11-9).

“As we close the ROTC Games Mindanao leg, it is with great joy and pride that we also sound the starter pistol, so to speak, for the Luzon and NCR leg. Muchas gracias Zamboanga City! Hindi malilimutan ang inyong suporta at pagkakaisa! Mabuhay po ang Philippine ROTC Games 2023! Maraming salamat po,” said Senator Tolentino.

The Philippine ROTC Games is a collaboration of the Philippine Sports Commission, Commission on Higher Education and Department of National Defense.

The next leg will be the Luzon regional qualifying scheduled from September 17 to 23 at the Cavite State University main campus in Indang, Cavite to be followed by the National Capital Region leg and the National Championships.
