Ria Atayde gives new TV5 show a millennial twist

Morning talk show Chika, Besh! Basta Everyday Super Happy premiered on Monday with hosts Pauline Luna, Pokwang, and Ria Atayde giving the audience a dose of “good vibes,” especially in these difficult times.

Ria, in particular, being the youngest in the group, wanted to bring something different to the table. With her lively and dynamic personality, she aims to share her insight on things, giving the show a millennial flavor.

“It’s so much fun working with and learning from them. They’re such joys to work with. They’re so open and they’re such sweet and thoughtful co-workers. On our first day, they both gave me food for me to take home,” Ria, who is still a Star Magic talent, said of her co-hosts.

While not everyone is given the opportunity to appear on TV these days, considering the situation we are currently in, the 28-year-old screen star feels fortunate when the project landed on her lap.

“I’m truly grateful to have been given this opportunity, especially amidst the pandemic. APT asked Star Magic for names of people they recommend as the third show. Star Magic submitted my name and thankfully, I was selected,” she recalled.

Ria believes that the show is timely and a breath of fresh air. While we are bombarded by negative news almost all the time, the show dwells on happy topics and endeavors to stay positive.

“The title was chosen by the management. At some point, it was called Rise and Shine but they ultimately decided to call it Chika, Besh. I guess it makes it more relatable and less polarizing that way too,” she revealed.

Here’s our exclusive Q and A with Ria:

What kind of Ria will the audience see in this show?

People are used to seeing me act. I think just seeing me more candid and more myself.

How does it feel that you are appearing on a different channel? How supportive is your mom?

Appearing on a different channel is interesting. My mom has been nothing but supportive—if anything, she’s one of the ones who truly encouraged me to take the job.

How will ‘Besh’ change the morning habits of television viewers?

I believe the show is ready to spread good vibes and it’ll be something new for people to see considering we have so many segments including trending videos, features on Filipino brands, and travel features among others. It’s going to be fun and exciting and I can’t wait for everyone to join us.

Chika, Besh! airs weekdays as part of TV5’s morning programming block at 10:00 a.m., which is part of blocktime productions of APT Entertainment through its subsidiary Archangel Media.
