Those who were born in the late ‘90s and early 2000s would know for sure local groups showcasing their versatility in acting, dancing, and singing. Sexbomb Girls, Baywalk Bodies, Viva Hotbabes, and Masculados were household names in the local scene during that era.

With the rise of P-pop, a new all-male boy group, under Viva Records and LDG Production, made their debut on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Viva Café, aiming to prove that they are not just sexy artists but talented performers as well.

Magic Boyz, which took its name from Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike, opened their debut showcase with their single, “‘Wag Mo Akong Titigan”, a song that delves into pursuing someone you like.

The boy group’s debut single is about pursuing a love interest

Consisting of Jhon Mark Marcia, Juan Paulo Calma, Mhack Morales, Rave Obado, Jace Ramos, Ian Briones, and Johan Shane, the Magic Voyz aims to prove that aside from doing films (as three of them had done Vivamax movies), they could also dance and sing.

“We’re not just for movies who mainly focus on doing sexy scenes. So, this is also the reason for forming the group—not just for dancing, but to showcase our talents as well,” said Jhon Mark.

The group also emphasized that they didn’t want to be compared to any existing groups as they only aimed to prove that they also had talents.

“We’re not doing this to be compared regarding our talents. We are doing this because this is what we love to do and we are passionate about it—which allows us to showcase our abilities,” explained Johan, who is also the composer of Magic Boyz

On the other hand, the group’s manager, Lito De Guzman shared the reason why he created Magic Voyz.

“I missed managing a group, so I formed Magic Voyz. I really miss managing a group again. Singing and dancing is truly my life’s challenge,” said De Guzman.

De Guzman is known as the person behind the groups Baywalk Bodies and Wonder Gays.

“I see that boy groups are really popular right now, so I thought, why not train some boys who have already led in movies? I want their performances to have a purpose and to showcase their versatility. The idea is to have a package that includes being a sexy actor but also talented—able to sing and dance in addition to acting,” he continued.

The seven-member group is also gearing up for the release of their upcoming single, “Bintana”.
