OPM Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia announced that guitarist Marcus Adoro will no longer be part of the band’s upcoming music festival appearance following renewed allegations of sexual abuse.
On Sunday, Ely took to his social media account to address the issue surrounding the band’s guitarist.
“We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online. As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse in any form. Above all, we seek the truth,” he wrote in a statement.
Ely also said that Marcus is “working to address the issue” and would step back from an unspecified upcoming project, which is widely believed to be the “Eraserheads Electric Fun Music Festival” set for May 31.
“We move forward with humility and deep respect for the truth and social responsibility,” he added.
The announcement came after a Reddit user accused Marcus of rape in a post shared in late March. The user, who said the incident occurred when they were in high school, also claimed that the former Eraserheads member had assaulted “countless” others.
Meanwhile, Marcus has not publicly responded to the latest accusations.
This is not the first time the guitarist has faced allegations of abuse. In 2019, Adoro’s daughter, singer-songwriter Syd Hartha, accused him of physical and emotional abuse. In a statement posted on Facebook, she said he would hurt her behind her mother’s back and sometimes even in front of others.
Syd also released screenshots of online messages, including one where Marcus reportedly told her she would be raped. In another screenshot, actress Barbara Ruaro, Marcus former partner, also accused him of abuse in a conversation with Syd.
