Chris Pine stars in The Contractor, an action thriller about betrayal, survival, and the harsh realities faced by former soldiers.
Pine plays James Harper, a former U.S. Special Forces operative discharged against his will. Struggling with debt and a lost sense of purpose, he joins a private security firm led by a calculating contractor (Kiefer Sutherland). Sent to infiltrate a Berlin lab suspected of illicit activities, Harper is soon caught in a deadly conspiracy. On the run, he fights to stay alive while uncovering layers of deceit and seeking a way back to his family.
Directed by Swedish filmmaker Tarik Saleh, the film explores themes of loyalty, exploitation, and the struggles of veterans after service.
“I want people to think about what we do to our veterans and how we treat them,” Pine told IGN. “The mental health of our veterans, the ideas of freedom and democracy—these are all things I want people to take away from it.”
The film reunites Pine with Ben Foster for their third collaboration. “It’s a joy to work with people you respect,” Foster told Looper. “It makes the job that much better.”
The Contractor is now streaming on Lionsgate Play in the Philippines, available through the app and via PLDT Home for P79 per month.
