Filipino must draw inspiration from the courage of our counrty’s heroes and rise to the challenge of nation-building, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. said Wednesday.
In his message on the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), Teodoro emphasized that the legacy of valor demonstrated by the country’s veterans should guide the collective pursuit of progress, peace, and security.
“As we commemorate Araw ng Kagitingan, we remember the bravery of those who fought and sacrificed their lives for our country. Their heroism is etched in our nation’s history, a powerful reminder of what it means to be truly Filipino,” Teodoro said.
The DND chief emphasized that this day is not only about honoring the past, but also about embracing the responsibilities of the present and future.
“In these uncertain times, may we draw strength from their legacy and stand united in purpose and resolve,” he said.
The DND reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation while honoring its veterans’ sacrifices, according to Teodoro.
Araw ng Kagitingan is observed annually to commemorate the fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942 and to honor the memory of those who endured the Bataan Death March, underscoring the enduring lessons of history and the value of freedom.
The day is highlighted by ceremonies, educational programs, and tributes to veterans, all aimed at inspiring citizens to emulate the heroism of those who defended the nation.
