GMA-7’s long-running documentary program I-Witness is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Launched in 1999 by Jessica Soho and Marissa Flores, the show pioneered long-form documentaries in the Philippines, becoming the most-awarded documentary program in the country as well as the longest-running public affairs show.

I-Witness has featured prominent names in Philippine broadcasting, including Soho, Mike Enriquez, Mel Tiangco, and others, while offering cutting-edge training for producers and directors. The program has received numerous accolades, including two George Foster Peabody Awards and an Emmy nomination.

To mark its milestone year, I-Witness will air a special documentary series highlighting stories of community heroism. Hosts Kara David, Howie Severino, Atom Araullo, John Consulta, and Mav Gonzales will feature sagas ranging from Indigenous Peoples protecting wildlife to doctors providing care in remote areas. These episodes will air every Saturday from Sept. 14 to Oct. 12.

Over the years, I-Witness has remained relevant, serving as educational content in classrooms and theaters. It continues to produce compelling stories while upholding journalism’s core values.

I-Witness airs every Saturday at 10:15 p.m. on GMA, with international viewers able to watch via GMA Pinoy TV.
