Piolo Pascual’s sacred roles and meaningful performances

On Sunday afternoon, we had a tête-à-tête with Piolo Pascual. The conversation was so candid that he even touched on looking young despite his age and how a positive mindset contributes to it.

Pascual shared his gratitude for continuing to land numerous assignments and emphasized that he’s not overly picky. He seeks roles in projects that resonate with him and make a meaningful impact. One such project is Pamilya Sagrado, which is set to premiere its second chapter on Sept. 9.

“It makes me feel grateful that I’m given opportunities. The challenges you take on bring you to greater heights without you even expecting it. It’s a matter of going for it, being humble, and giving your 100 percent,” he said.

Pascual expressed pride in the show’s success and praised his fellow actors for their dedication to their roles. Kyle Echarri and Grae Fernandez have been recognized by viewers as rising stars due to their exceptional performances.

“I’ve never been this invested in a show. Playing this character has been both challenging and a milestone for my career. I’m thrilled to see the growth of my co-stars, Kyle and Grae. They truly owned their roles,” Pascual said.

Working with these young stars is somewhat nostalgic for the “Ultimate Heartthrob,” who sees himself in them.

“Whenever I work with senior stars, I still get starstruck. I’m in awe that sometimes I forget my lines. That’s how I was,” he said.

“The commitment they have is evident in their eyes. I believe age knows no bounds when it comes to brilliance in acting,” he added.

According to Pascual, he has already portrayed numerous roles, but one of his dream projects is working on a biopic. He is currently developing a film about the colorful life of former police chief and current Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

“Well, I’m working on a Magalong project. I’m sorry, I’m not supposed to disclose it. So I spoke with Mayor Magalong, and we’re interested in making a movie about his life. So that’s in the pipeline,” the 47-year-old actor revealed.

Another consistent plan he has is to portray the life of former President Ferdinand Marcos. He grew up in Malacañang because his mother worked there for a long time.

“Since I grew up during the Marcos era when my mom was working in Malacañang for 19 years, that was my environment growing up. So I’m a Marcos baby. I want to provide our audience with something they haven’t seen growing up or give them insight into a person. So nothing political, no political agenda whatsoever,” emphasized the award-winning actor.

Meanwhile, Pascual also looks forward to working with Judy Ann Santos again, saying, “I’ll drop everything for her. I mean, I owe her so much, and I miss working with her. If I’m given a chance, anytime, in a heartbeat,”

Fans of the actress are still hoping they will work together again. “I’m also expecting it, one of these days. I learned so much from her.”

As for the genre he envisions: “I’d like it to be something like Tagos Sa Dugo. Something crime-related, thriller, suspense, psychological drama. Not a rom-com.” This was starred in by Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto in 1987.

When asked why it seems to be taking time for them to work together again, Pascual candidly replied, “Not me, ask her, hahaha! I’m open.”
