President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos recently approved the “Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act,” championed by actor and Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla. The law aims to honor public school teachers by formalizing and boosting their annual teaching allowance.

Senator Revilla expressed gratitude for the President’s approval and highlighted the significance of the legislation for teachers’ welfare.

“At present. teachers are receiving a teaching allowance called ‘chalk allowance’ of P5,000 annually. But due to skyrocketing prices, this chalk allowance is no longer enough. Oftentimes, the teacher spends his/her own money to buy these teaching materials. More than chalk and other classroom supplies for blended modality in teaching, the teachers now need an internet connection, electricity, laptop, and others for more effective teaching,” the senator explained.

Provided in this statute, the teaching allowance of public school teachers will be increased from P5,000 to P10,000 starting School Year 2025-2026.

According to historical data, public school teachers have been receiving a meager allowance for the actual conduct of teaching.

In 1988, they only received P100 allowance, P200 in 1989-1992, P300 in 1993-2007, P500 in 2008, P700 in 2009-2011, P1,000 in 2012-2014, P1,500 in 2015-2016, P2,500 in 2017, P3,500 in 2018-2020, and P5,000 in 2021 to present.

Revilla expressed gratitude to all who supported and pushed them to achieve the approval of the “Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act.”

He also acknowledged his fellow senators, particularly his co-authors. The same appreciation was directed toward lawmakers in the House of Representatives for their contribution to the passage of the measure.

“Ultimately, I extended my gratitude to the teachers who shared their vision,” Revilla said emphasizing that this victory belonged to them, representing a triumph for the entire education sector.

“This is just one step among several in empowering teachers through laws that benefit those who hold the important task of educating our youth,” Senator Revilla concluded.
