Ben&Ben’s Paolo Benjamin recounts story behind photo with Ed Sheeran

Paolo Benjamin Guico, one of the popular members of Indie folk-pop band Ben&Ben, has revealed the story behind the photo of him and his brother, Miguel Benjamin Guico, with British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.

In a post on X account, Paolo shared the selfie he and his brother had with the singer in their dressing room. Paolo described encountering the megastar when a member of the singer’s security detail entered their room to confirm if they belonged to their band. Shortly after, Ed Sheeran himself entered the room.

Paolo admitted feeling nervous and starstruck throughout the interaction. He explained that while his twin brother did most of the talking due to his own nervousness, he managed to tell Sheeran how his music impacted many artists in the country, including themselves.

Paolo then said that he decided to share the story with their fans because if it was not for their constant support, they would not be able to get such a big opportunity to perform alongside Sheeran.

“SALAMAT SAINYO LABYU,” said Paolo in his social media post.

Ben&Ben served as an opening act for Sheeran’s +–=÷x Tour (read as Mathematics Tour) in Manila on Saturday night. They shared the stage with another English singer-songwriter, Calum Scott. During the concert, Sheeran surprised fans by calling the band back onstage for a rendition of their hit song, “Maybe The Night.”

Paolo had also expressed his thoughts over sharing the stage with the British singer in a separate post where he reposted a fan’s video of them performing the song.

“Ah basta sumasabog ako sa kilig nito inside pero as an awkward introvert ito na yung sagad na pag express non kagabi,” said Paolo.

The band also played some of their songs such as “Pagtingin” and “Kathang Isip.”

Presented by Smart and local concert promoter Ovation Productions, the concert was held at SMDC Festival grounds.
